Progress on Nasri

Does anyone know what's going on w/ Samir?

Wenger originally said he'd be out 6 weeks, but its been longer than that already and I haven't heard or seen anything that he's back to training or anything.

Diaby or Vela

Too bad Vela has been out since the Gold Cup (he had a blinder against the US in the final!!) because he prolly could have gotten some good PT while Nasri / Walcott / Arshavin have been out.

I don't know about his defensive capabilities, but I'm fairly confident that he's able to make the same blinding runs as Diaby and has a much higher IQ (not just footballing IQ either, overall IQ).

I happen to be a huge fan of the Mexican and have always been consistenly frustrated with Diaby that its time Wenger give Vela the time to shine in the first team, although it seems as though he will have more competition than ever for time with Arshavin nearing a return as well as Nasri, Walcott, Rosicky, Wilshire, Ramsey, RVP, Eduardo, Bendtner, & Cesc all fighting for essentially 4 or 5 spots since I can't see Song being displaced and Wenger happens to love Denilson to help shield the back 4 too.

So Much for Barry

As we all now know, Gareth Barry wasn't out for Champions League football, but the glorious tint of money.

This is a relief, however, as he probably would have helped Arsenal next season (and for a few to come), but this type of money - grubbing attitude wouldn't help the rest of the squad.

On a different note, the TV revenue figures for all BPL clubs was published through numerous outlets the other day with Arsenal finishing in 3rd spot (behind Chealski & ManUre) with a whopping 74 million pounds ($123 mil) from TV revenue alone. This doesn't include match day sales or merchandising monies.

If you all remember last year, Arsenal had it's highest turnover ever, and only made it to the final 8 of the Champions League, this year and 2 more Champs League games means it should also be in the neighborhood of last year's turnover (albeit the economy could be better).

My question to you and the board is: WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOING????

Why Not Barry & Alonso

Ah the summer transfer speculation has started off with a boiling pace and it's just now June 1st. What great days of outlandish tabloid shit we are in store for over the next three months!

As such, I feel it is my time to throw in a couple of good stories myself, ones that I literally just invented in my own head:

Why doesn't Wenger purchase BOTH Alonso and Barry? That way all of us Gooners will be right in saying that one is better than the other and that one (or both) are not players we really need.

Some are saying that Xabi isn't a true defensive midfielder. Others are saying that Barry isn't good enough for Arsenal.

If Arsene were to purchase both, we would see who is the better of the two. Plus, we would still be able to play that horrid 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 formation that Wenger really likes to play all of the sudden.

Who Would Replace Wenger IF He Left & ONLY 13 mill?

There have been many a Gooners in the blogosphere shouting that Wenger needs replaced, but I ask you this:

Who is worthy of replacing him?

He is clearly a sought after commodity with top clubs (Real & Bayern to name a few) eager to sign him and give him the control to rebuild their shattered clubs.

All of us Gooners are very spoiled, by the fact that we all want to win every competition all while playing the sublime football that we are all, now, so accustom to. Our brand of football is ONLY rivaled by Barca for its form and fluidity, but where does that take you if you can't win anything?

Well, it will at least fill the 60000 seats at the Emirates, for a while anyway. I don't know of any manager, currently, who would be worthy of leading the Gooners, do you?

On a different note, I have seen, in many places, that Wenger will only have 13 mill to spend this summer, so he must sell to buy. This is ridiculous when all of our 7 closest rivals will be spending that on only one player this summer. Wherever this number came from is, hopefully a crock. We have 2 billionaires that are the top 2 shareholders and should have a chest from match day revenue that will surely give him more than 13 mill, no??

13 million for a club that is, supposedly, one of the biggest in the world is just not acceptable!

Ade to Cheski - Why Bother

I saw a rumour that Adebayor was going to be lining up for Chelski next season and that Ancelotti was going to be their manager...

Who comes up with this stuff?

I don't know what is gonna motivate Ade, but he has the potential to be a super striker, but doesn't go out consistently and prolly never will (especially since it's all about money).

Arsenal FC are 3rd Most Valuable Club

I was informed by Arsenal-Mania.com that Arsenal FC reached the 7th spot on Forbes List of most valuable sports clubs throughout the world. The list is dominated by sports organizations located here in the states (2-Cowboys, 3-Redskins, 4-Patriots, 5-Yankees) and there are only 3 football clubs in the top 10 (1-ManUr, 6-Real Madrid, 7-MIGHTY ARSENAL).

This begs the question, how are all of these American Football franchises in the top 10 when they only play 16 games a season, less than 1/3 of what Arsenal play? Commercial contracts sure, larger stadiums yeah, but more of a following? Larger fan base? Our new stadium is not far off the 70,000 average of the NFL stadiums and our brand surely has 10 times the following of any of those teams.

I also question how the club are valued at an estimated $1.2 billion, but we can't spend and additional 2 mill to ensure that the only target we have in the transfer window (despite what Wenger says) comes to the Emirates?

One theory is that Arsenal didn't come to sit on this list without the prudent methods we have so often shown, but $1.2 billion and we can't spend an additional $2 million, that sounds like an egotistical shouting match!!!

Just sign the lad already!!!

Cold War, Football Style

I really hope I am wrong about this one, but it seems that, due to a failed 100 mil bid for Kaka City's Sheiks are now interested in really the only top notch talent who is assured of moving on from his current club: Andrei Arshavin.

Arsenal HAD one advantage while Milan and City were engaged in discussion, we were the only club formally bidding for Arshavin's services.  It seemed a solid fit, his stature and skill fit into Wenger's, but his demeanor has not been one that I would associate with an Arsenal player.  He threatened to buy out the remainder of his contract this summer and leave on a free.

Is this a player Arsenal want?

There have been many that have questioned Wenger's moves in the past, but I for one, trust him more than myself when it comes to spotting talent and assessing personality.

Arshavin would fit in with the players at Arsenal, but not his wage demands.  This is why he will go to City instead of being unveiled at the Emirates in a few days time.  He wants money and is not concerned with who he plays for, but that he gets out of Russia.
